CHILDREN’S CHRISTMAS PARTY
Almost 100 preschoolers were blessed with a wonderful Christmas party at the end of 2013. This was made possible by a generous volunteer, who not only provided the finances for the event, but took on the responsibility of organizing the party!
TOY RUN NEVER LETS US DOWN!
For the 6th year, the December ‘Toy Run’ motorbike event, has supported the children in Kosovo and Samora Machel with toys. This year, Life Child received 200 toys which were distributed to our partner crèches in Kosovo to ensure the kiddies had toys to play with at the crèches they attend.
ROCKY’ HANDIMAN SKILLS ROCK!
‘Rocky’ from Life Church Cape Town, returned in November 2013 from Life Child Mozambique, where he had spent 6 months as a volunteer offering his skills at the children’s village. The timing of his return to Cape Town was perfect, as we had just finished the re-location of the Vukuzenzele crèche in Kosovo after the flood disaster and needed his amazing all round building skills to finish the project. Rocky was able to dismantle and re-locate the jungle gym, put together and install the kitchen cabinets and sink in the Kids Kitchen as well as install all the electricity cables, plugs and light fittings in both the Vukuzenzele crèche and kitchen. We thank God for perfect timing and for Rocky!
ELECTRICITY AND PLUMBING PROVIDED AT THE KIDS KITCHEN AND VUKUZENZELE CRECHE
When the City of Cape Town provided land for the re-location of the Vukuzenzele and the Kids Kitchen last year, it meant that we had to re-apply for ‘electricity’ to be connected. This was not a simple process! Finally, after 2 months, the Electricity Department came through for us and as of February we have been able to start up the kitchen, running deep freezers and lighting. Thanks to the immediate response by the Water and Sanitation Departments at the City local branch, the plumbing pipes were installed enabling both structures to have in-house running water. We thank the local branches of the City of Cape Town for their support in this process.
TWO NEW CRECHE STRUCTURES BUILT!
Two of our partner crèches, the Siqualo and Zimamele Educares, started the year with brand new structures, thanks to the support of HCI (Hosken Consolidated Investments) and the Platteklip Charity Challenge. The solid zinc structures were completed with concrete floors and outside toilet blocks.
STOP HUNGER PROVIDES THE SIQUALO EDUCARE IN KOSOVO WITH FOOD
Stop Hunger Africa joined forces with one of our partner crèches, Siqualo Educare, in Kosovo this year, providing approximately 216 meals per month for the children in their care. This is a pilot project and will enable the principal to cook daily meals for 30 plus children in her care for 6 months. This is a real blessing to the children in her care and we thank Stop Hunger for this initiative.
NATIONAL STATIONERS, PEP STORES AND BREADLINE AFRICA PROVIDE THE LITTLE ‘GRADUATES’ WITH STATIONERY FOR PRIMARY SCHOOL
End-year ‘graduation’ is always a big deal for the Grade R’s (5 year olds). The graduates don a black robe with sash and hat and receive their ‘passing out’ certificate… ready for primary school! For the 3rd year running we were blessed to receive a donation from National Stationers enabling us to hand out over 200 pencil cases with pens, coloured pencils and rulers. Then Pep Stores, on behalf of Breadline Africa, added their contribution of rubbers, pencils and stickers. The children were able to enter into primary school in 2014 with pride, thanks to the generous donors above.
VOLTEX PROVIDES FOOD FOR THE KIDS KITCHEN
Voltex, a Bidvest company, has for the 2nd year in a row, reached out to the hungry children in Kosovo, by providing top quality frozen vegetables as well as rice, samp and other foodstuffs needed for daily meals. Our freezers are currently full thanks to these generous donors!
